August 2022 Trail Update

Trail crews worked on drainage issues on Lost Lake trail, near Hromek Road. In addition, Piper, Myra Bailout, Ridgeview, Lost Lake Connector  and Fairlane (east of Priest Creek) have been re-brushed.

Priest Creek Trail Closure

Trail closed 5k east of Pete’s Bridge due to flooding. GPS 41°24’12.2″N 2°10’26.5″E. Crews working next week. Anticipate opening date: week of March 14th. Check back for official opening date.

Regional District of the Central Okanagan (RDCO)

Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy BC Provincial Parks: Myra-Bellevue and Okanagan Mountain FOSS holds a Partnership Agreement with BC Parks authorizing the Society to provide trail maintenance, facility repairs, sign installation and to promote BC Park values.  Over 3000 volunteer hours were invested this past year, significantly improving the many, many kilometres of trails in both Parks. Wild Horse Canyon Trail Upgrade

Wild Horse Canyon Trail (WHC Trail) had been neglected for years and was severely overgrown. Lost Lake Trail Upgrade

In 2021, FOSS applied for, and received, a grant for $10,000 from The Central Okanagan Foundation to upgrade Lost Lake Trail. The trail was overgrown, suffered from significant erosion, and had ongoing water issues. First, the trail was cleared and brushed to better define the trail itself. Bridge Relocation, Priest Creek

In 2017, 2 bridges in Priest Creek Linear Park became nonfunctional when the creek relocated during extensive flooding in the area. The bridges were high quality, backcountry bridges with 10 inch steel I-beam construction and were located in a cedar forest with 100 foot canopy.
