Lost Lake Trail & Pink Highway Trail Work

Gary O’Connor, Terry Hanson, and Milt Stevenson hard at work on Lost Lake Trail.

We’ve been hard at work on Lost Lake Trail and Pink Highway. While chainsaws and brushers might steal the spotlight, it’s the unglamorous groundwork—especially drainage—that keeps our trails sustainable for the long haul.

Fresh drainage work on Pipers

You’ll notice new drainage spots along these trails. Whenever possible, we’ve added swales to help channel runoff like a broad basin. In tougher spots, we’ve put in drainage channels, keeping the uphill side minimal. These might look a bit rough at first but will smooth out with some use.

The consequences of poor drainage on trails.

A challenge we face is that many of the trails in Myra-Bellevue Park started as skidder trails, running straight down the contours, making water removal tricky. But with some effort, we’ve managed to get the drainage sorted!
